To gain votes in Dome-Kwabenya, I'll adopt Rawlings' strategy - Mike Oquaye Jr.

Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jr., the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, has flatly refuted claims that he washed a constituent's underpants.

There was conjecture that he was washing underpants when a video of him helping a lady with her laundry from his door-to-door campaign went viral. Now, a lot of people have seen this video.

Social media users are debating the lengths to which politicians would go in order to get votes in response to the occurrence.

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jr. addressed his detractors on Facebook. He said that he will follow the lead of the late former president Jerry John Rawlings and the Ablekuma South Member of Parliament, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, in order to garner support for himself in the 2024 elections.

He emphasized that during his visit, he had cleaned the son of a female constituent's denim shorts—not women's underwear. He called the charges made by his opponents to be "lies."

He emphasized that he will keep interacting with people by doing things like playing games, pounding fufu, cleaning clothing, and even plaiting hair.

"I'll pound fufu for votes, I'll wash jeans shorts with my people for votes," JJ Rawlings said. For votes, I'll braid my hair or even perform a banku on fire, just as Oko Vanderpuije did.

"What propaganda and falsehoods do you have that I cleaned so and so, which is a flagrant fabrication and a lie? Why didn't you state what I really did, which was talk to a constituent and wash my pants and shorts with them? He questioned, "Was it because you wanted to lie and fabricate sensational news, or because it would have been a pointless story?"

In order to get votes, Ambassador Oquaye Jr. said that he wanted to build relationships with his people.

"I want everyone to understand that I am just a regular person."
