President declares full recovery of aviation industry

Ghana's aviation landscape has witnessed a remarkable resurgence, as articulated by President Akufo-Addo. The sector's revival is largely attributed to the significant uptick in air travel, both within the country and internationally.

During the unveiling of the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, the President shared on Friday, May 10, 2024, that the aviation sector's recovery is evidenced by the impressive growth in passenger numbers. The year 2023 concluded with international air travel numbers soaring to 2,914,661, marking a 25% leap from the 2019 figures of 2,328,758. The domestic front also showed robust growth, with passenger traffic climbing from 690,314 in 2019 to 775,662 by the end of 2023.

This rebound signifies not just a return to pre-pandemic levels but a promising trajectory of growth for Ghana's aviation industry. The President emphasized the government's commitment to nurturing the sector, ensuring it can hold its own against regional competitors.

President Akufo-Addo called upon all stakeholders to join forces and contribute to Ghana's vision of becoming a pivotal aviation hub in West Africa. This collaborative effort is pivotal for the continued prosperity and expansion of the aviation sector, positioning Ghana as a leader in regional air travel.
